Linglestown is a community of 6,539 people (2020) in Lower Paxton Township, northeast of Harrisburg. Linglestown Road ties the village to Harrisburg and Interstate 81 runs to the south, so commuters fill the newer neighborhoods. Wells and septic are still found on some properties toward the mountain, outside the public water and sewer areas.
What that means for your plumbing
Linglestown has a historic village core and many newer homes around it. Water heaters and sump pumps are common calls; see water heaters. Lower Paxton Township around the village has grown into one of the larger suburban townships near Harrisburg.
Below Blue Mountain
The village sits near the foot of Blue Mountain, and runoff from the slopes can keep basements damp. Newer homes on the slopes often have finished basements with sump pumps.
The Town of St. Thomas
Thomas Lingle laid out the village in 1765 as a 90-lot community he called the Town of St. Thomas, and his sheepskin plan still exists. He died in 1811 and was buried at the church at the east end of the village. Historic homes here need careful plumbing work; see fixtures and remodels. The church cemetery at the east end of the village dates to Lingle's time.
